EPIC Embedded Computer Board with AMD Geode LX800

Fanless EPIC board with low power consumption

Luterbach, Switzerland, July 28th, 2006 -- With the MICROSPACE® EPIC 800 board (MSEP800), the Swiss-based company DIGITAL-LOGIC offers an embedded computer platform based on the open EPIC (embedded platform for industrial computing) standard of the PC/104 consortium. The compact computer board uses a fanless Geode LX800@0.9W processor with 500MHz. The main memory can be equipped with DDR SDRAMs from 256MB up to 1GB. A panel of converters provides all standard PC interfaces such as four USB V2.0 ports, two serial interfaces as RS232C/422/485, dual LAN with 100/10Base-T-Ethernet and 1Gbit Ethernet, and VGA. Inside of the board, there are connections for one floppy disk, one P-ATA hard disks, two other serial interfaces as RS232C, LPT1, two PS2, 24 digital I/O channels and eight channels 10Bit analog-input.

An optional interface module provides two serial interfaces (DSUB9), a parallel port (DSUB25) and two PS2. The serial interfaces are available as RS232 or as opto-isolated RS422 resp. RS485. For assembly with solid-state memory cards instead of the hard disk serves a slot IDE CompactFlash type I/II. The Geode LX800 offers especially for the application in networks a 128Bit AES Crypto Accelerator with a performance up to 44Mbps.

For display, this EPIC board uses the UMA graphic controller of the Geode LX with up to 16MB VRAM for VGA and 18/24-bit LCD. This controller can display the same image on two monitors. With the optional multimedia module MSEP800CONM, an AC97-compatible stereo sound and DVI-D are available. With another option this board provides 3 channels CVBS video input.

The option of using a PC/104-Plus socket and a MiniPCI socket to integrate individual features, make the MSEP800 an ideal computer platform for industrial and commercial applications.

For evaluation purposes DIGITAL-LOGIC offers a complete system, the MICROSPACE® PCV800. This system contains hard disk, power supply and is available at a very attractive sample price.

The MSEP800 is compatible with every standard Pentium® PC and runs all common operating systems, such as Windows® XP, QNX®, Linux, etc. The embedded computer board has dimensions of 165mm x 115mm x 25mm (W x L x H) and a weight of 0.2kg. The integrated long-range power supply provides a voltage feed of 10V to 30V. Designed for low power consumption (typically 10 watts), this board operates within the standard temperature range of 0°C to +60°C and optionally from -40°C up to +85°C. The MSEP800 is available in a cost-effective basic model and with extension modules especially for multimedia and industrial applications. It is ideally suited for military, telecommunications, medical, security technology and image processing applications. The computer board is designed for a long-term availability from 5 to 10 years.
